In The Beginning

The motivating factor behind starting this blog is directly related to my continued commitment to ensure my own daughters happiness.  She is now an adult and living in a residential setting. It is my desire to inform parents and caregivers like me how to work within a system that support our loved ones whether they are young children, teenagers or adults. It is further my intention to enlighten you about the challenges of sometimes figuring out your best recourse of action in getting the support and resources you need are not always easy.  It takes a lot of effort on our part to find the answers that will get us to the results we desire. I believe that advocacy is a team effort. The work has to include parental agencies as well as the appropriate resources made available to support our efforts.

There are a wide range of needs to be considered. Their needs can range anywhere from health, travel, school placements, special education settings, day programs, rehab, travel and job training.  These are some of the things that should be considered to be put in place in order for them to be able to function successfully in their own communities and hopefully beyond.

Through this journey my daughter and I have encountered all of the above range of needs I’ve mentioned.  I know firsthand that these things do not automatically fall into place which is no different than anything in life.  I’m excited to start a dialog that may serve to support you. So if you will please join in on the conversation.
